| As
we are based in the beautiful South Hams, we are fortunate in that Local History
is eminently reachable through the auspices of The Plymouth & West Devon Records
Office. This
covers the borough of the modern city of Plymouth as well as West Devon itself.
This
excellent and understandably popular facility has extensive records, some of which
reach back to the thirteenth century. The
substantial microfiche section has proved invaluable to us, with its thorough
local listings of births, christenings, baptisms, marriages, deaths and burials
based on Parish Registers. In
addition to these resources, we have also delved into the collections of deeds,
wills, charters, letters, reports, financial plans, maps and photographs that
are also held there.
So.... if you have West Country ancestry, this is one of the places we can start
at for you. Elsewhere, we have picked up tremendously useful material from offices
in South East Cornwall and principal Archival Centres in Exeter and Truro. | |
